چکیده

In this paper the branching time logic pCTL is deened. pCTL expresses quantitative bounds on the probabilities of correct behavior ; it can be interpreted over discrete Markov processes. A bisim-ulation relation is deened on nite Markov processes, and shown to be sound and complete with respect to pCTL. We extend the universe of models to generalized Markov processes in order to support notions of re-nement, abstraction, and parametrization. Model checking pCTL over generalized Markov processes is shown to be elementary by a reduction to RCF. We conclude by describing practical and theoretical avenues for further work.

A Formalism for Stochastic Adaptive Systems

Complex systems such as systems of systems result from the combination of several components that are organized in a hierarchical manner. One of the main characteristics of those systems is their ability to adapt to new situations by modifying their architecture. Those systems have recently been the subject of a series of works in the software engineering community. Most of those works do not c...

Model-checking for Probabilistic Real-time Systems

Model-checking is a method of verifying concurrent systems in which a state-graph model of the system behavior is compared with a temporal logic formula. This paper extends model-checking to stochastic real-time systems, whose behavior depends on probabilistic choice and quantitative time. The speciication language is TCTL, a branching-time temporal logic for expressing real-time properties. We...

Temporal Logic in a Stochastic Environment

Temporal logic has proved to be a useful tool for the speci cation of computer systems interacting with their environment Meanwhile a common approach to the analysis of the performance of such systems has been based on stochastic process theory and in particular Markov chains We describe an approach to modelling a temporal logic system in a random environment and how Markov Chain techniques can...

Dispersive Ordering and k-out-of-n Systems

Extended Abstract. The simplest and the most common way of comparing two random variables is through their means and variances. It may happen that in some cases the median of X is larger than that of Y, while the mean of X is smaller than the mean of Y. However, this confusion will not arise if the random variables are stochastically ordered. Similarly, the same may happen if one would like to ...

Reachability checking in complex and concurrent software systems using intelligent search methods

Software system verification is an efficient technique for ensuring the correctness of a software product, especially in safety-critical systems in which a small bug may have disastrous consequences. The goal of software verification is to ensure that the product fulfills the requirements. Studies show that the cost of finding and fixing errors in design time is less than finding and fixing the...
